HUNTING

Black Oak Hollow

This 33-acre area is primarily upland oak woods.  It is located 2 miles north of Kendallville, just a short drive off of Hwy 139.  The area offers hunting for white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and squirrels.

Bluffton Bluffs

This 20-acre strip of upland ends at the top of a 300-foot bluff that overlooks the Upper Iowa River.  It is located on the Bluffton Road near the town of Bluffton.  Besides being a small corridor for hunting white-tailed deer and turkeys, it is also very scenic.

Chipera Prairie

Located west of Fort Atkinson on Hwy 24, this 90-acre plot contains some areas of native prairie.  Other areas that were previously farmed are being reverted back to natural habitat.  Upland hunting for pheasants and cottontail rabbits is excellent at this site.

Marilie Educational Forest Reserve

This 20-acre parcel of timber contains predominately oak, maple, and basswood trees.  It is located south of Frankville, just a short drive off the Frankville Road.  There is a hiking trail encircling the property and public hunting for white-tailed deer, turkeys, and squirrels is available.

South Bear Park

Located just off of County Road A24 near Highlandville, this 38-acre park provides upland hunting for deer, turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, and ruffed grouse.  This park also offers picnicking, primitive camping and fishing.  Please remember to refrain from hunting within 200 yards of the campground.

This park offers a 38-acre lake for fishing and is located just off of Hwy 24 between Calmar and Fort Atkinson.  The lake is stocked with Northern Pike, Bluegill, Black Crappie, Largemouth Bass, and Channel Catfish.  A trail around the lake provides excellent opportunities for bank fishing.  There are several small docks, one of which is handicap accessible.  A boat ramp is available, but only boats using electric motors are allowed.  No swimming in the lake.  Also, we just added a 60-foot jetty allowing people walking access to deeper water in the lake.  This park also offers a variety of other options including picnicking, camping, and a nature center.
